Weekly Update

July 19th, 2001

Greetings everyone!

The Fast last Sabbath has born fruit from all that I have heard from the field. My wife and I were in Garden Grove for services, and we surely missed the wonderful "pot-luck" that Mr. and Mrs. Collins and assistants always put together. We sure hated to waste a trip up there and miss the good food those ladies prepare….

We are off tomorrow for a few days with the brethren in Saratoga Springs, Wyoming. I understand that it is a beautiful area in southern Wyoming. I have never been there before, so I am looking forward to the trip, and to visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Ben Whitfield and the brethren who will be attending there over the weekend.

Everyone here has been quite busy this week, as usual. Mr. and Mr. Weston left a few days ago to prepare for the young people coming to the Living Church of God Youth Camp. The next few weeks will hold long days and short nights for the Westons, so they will appreciate your prayers for a safe and successful Summer Camp. Also, Mr. Jerry Ruddlesden and his family left today for Michigan to help set up and serve the Living Youth Camp, so the Accounting Department is quite small for a few days.

Mr. Dibar Apartian, Mr. Richard Ames and I recorded Feast of Tabernacles sermons today to be copied and sent out in September. It sure is different recording a sermon two or three months in advance of an event! I asked Mr. Apartian to prepare and record a sermon for the Day of Atonement—and to make it genuine and realistic, I asked him to FAST on the day he records it. He is thinking about it….

Have a great Sabbath, and travel safely.

Since Mr. Carl McNair left me the challenging task of completing this Weekly Report (isn't he kind?), may I also start with a GREETINGS EVERYONE…?

Mario Hernandez returns from Europe

Upon his return from a short trip to Europe, full of his customary zeal and enthusiasm, Mr. Mario Hernandez, the Spanish Director, handed me a lengthy and most interesting account of his visits with the French and Spanish brethren. Because of the limited space in this Weekly Report, we will publish his full report in the "International Corner" of the September/October issue of the LCN. Let me at least announce that, while in Madrid, he ordained Mario Ferrer as deacon.

LYC 2001 Announcement

by Gerald Weston, Youth Development Director

"LCY 2001 is about to begin. The coming week 190 campers and staff will come from all over the United States, Canada, and as far as New Zealand to enjoy two weeks in the beautiful upper peninsula of Michigan. This year we will continue our campus improvement project by expanding two more of the boys' dorms, thus making the dorms more comfortable and adding future campus capacity. Over the winter Northwoods re-sided the lodge and installed new windows. The former site manager retired this spring and a new manager has already begun to move the camp forward with renewed energy and fresh perspective, One thing that hasn't changed is the abundance of wildlife. Many new fawns have been born and can be seen frolicking around the camp.

"For those traveling by plane under the care of the airline and needing to have someone to be released to, please take note of the following. If arriving PRIOR to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, the airline can release your teen to MARY LEDY. If arriving AFTER 1:00 p.m. your teen can be released to PAUL SHUMWAY. Because of possible delays and other problems, if your airline will take two names it would be best to give both of these names.

"If you would like to view on line what is happening on a day by day basis at LYC you may do so by logging on to www.youth-web.org and then going to the LYC link. This year, along with the still photos we normally post, we plan to uplink a newscast given by campers by way of satellite that you can download giving details of each day's activities."

More on Summer Camp—LYC:

by F Thomas Turner, Legal Liaison LCG

"By year-end, under the direction of Mr. Gerald Weston, our North American Youth Development Director, the Church will have operated three Summer Camp programs; two Pre-Teen programs—one in Missouri and one in Texas (both already successfully accomplished) and one Teen program in Michigan. The Living Youth Camp (LYC) in Michigan is by far the Church's largest and most active camp program, running from July 24th through August 8 this year. Some of the activities available at the Teen program are Archery, Basketball, Canoeing, Fishing, Flag Football, Hiking, Photography, Swimming, Rifle Range, and Volleyball. Please pray for the success of this year's Teen camp—as well as for the personal safety and health of all the campers and staff."

We will miss Leonard "Bill" Witt…

"Lenoard 'Bill' Witt died peacefully early this morning (Thursday 19). As an elder in the Living Church of God, he provided an excellent example of leadership in his dedication towards God and of loving service to the brethren in Kentucky. He will be greatly missed by the many people his life touched, both within the Church of God and in the local community where he was held in the highest regard. He is survived by his wife, Leva, seven children and many grandchildren. Letters can be sent to Mrs. Leva Witt, Box 403, McKee, KY 40447. Lambert Greer and Martin Fannin."

From Legal Affairs and Risk Management

by Tom Turner, Legal Liaison & Risk Manager

Occasionally it is good to reiterate certain information—particularly for the benefit of those who may have not received the information the first time around.

Contracts: In the United States, all contractual agreements involving the Living Church of God must be cleared through Legal Affairs pursuant to the policy statement contained in Dr. Meredith's memo of December 31, 1999. Copies available upon request. Internationally, LCG's Regional Church Entities (RCE) should either submit contracts to their appointed in-country Legal Counsel, or to Legal Affairs in the USA prior to execution. In all cases, an agent must be legally empowered to sign the particular contractual agreement on behalf of the Church.

Driving Permits: Only those who have been issued a Living Church of God Driving Permit may drive for, or on behalf of, the Church; this includes rental vehicles secured for uses related to any Church, or Church-sponsored, activity. To obtain a permit, a complete and executed "Add Driver" request form must be submitted along with an original (copies not acceptable) "MVR" (Motor Vehicle Record—a/k/a "driving record"). Due to changes in California Law, the Church is currently unable to offer the service of obtaining MVRs for prospective drivers; we are investigating other legitimate avenues to offer this service again in the future and will announce when one has been secured.

Tapes & Recordings Distribution: To avoid certain media liability and other legal risks, Living Church of God has one unified Tape Program operating exclusively out of the Media Department in San Diego, and only those recorded messages (sermonettes, sermons, announcements) which have been processed (standard introduction added, and any necessary minimum edits) and approved through headquarters may be distributed in their final form. No other LCG-related recorded messages may be distributed through any media—all recordings of LCG sermons, sermonettes and announcements are the intellectual property of LCG. Recorded messages may be submitted in duplicate to headquarters by the pastor where the message was originally given; he should send such to the attention of "Tape Program" (one will be forwarded to CAD and one will be retained for processing). Once processed and approved, then such recorded messages may be distributed freely according to the limitation(s) contained in the standard introduction.

LCG Pastors outside the USA who wish to distribute recorded local messages should work through their regional office. Regional Offices may obtain guidelines for processing from headquarters.

IN CONCLUSION

When I picked up where Mr. McNair had left off with his part of this Weekly Report, I didn't know just what news to add because there was practically nothing on my desk. But now, before another avalanche of news arrives, I had better sign off and say, Y'ALL HAVE A WONDERFUL SABBATH.
