Weekly Update

June 4th, 2026

Greetings from Charlotte,

Mr. Weston has been in western Canada this week. He will be in Vancouver this weekend for a Tomorrow’s World Presentation and for Sabbath services. Some brethren have asked about the status of brethren in the war-torn areas of the world. According to the latest information from our Regional Directors, some of our brethren in Myanmar are still in danger as the military has taken control of urban areas after recent elections. In Cuba, conditions continue to deteriorate, with food and supply shortages as well as power outages. We are able to send assistance to brethren in need. In Haiti, lawless conditions continue, though brethren are normally able to meet for Sabbath services. God has been merciful and gracious to our brethren in these areas, but as their conditions are precarious, they need our prayers. Our Living Education volunteer teachers arrived safely in Thailand and are getting acclimated to their new surroundings. Thank you for praying for God’s people and His Work around the world.

L4T 2026 – Blowing Rock, North Carolina

Thirty-one young adults enjoyed a weekend of fun, fellowship, and learning in the beautiful Smoky Mountains from May 29–31. On the Sabbath, Mr. John Strain gave a sermon on doing all we can do to improve our lives now but more importantly “living for tomorrow”—our eternal future. Mr. Jonathan McNair focused the theme of the weekend on discernment and learning to apply this biblical value to the challenges that Christians face today from every direction. The weekend concluded with the second annual Blowing Rock Treasure Hunt, as teams of young adults scoured the town for clues of hidden “things to see, people to meet, and things to do.” Thanks to all the young adults who came from far corners to be together for the weekend!

Perseverance Is Vital: Perseverance is one of the laws of success. It is defined as remaining steadfast under pressure and continuing on a path despite difficulties. Solomon wrote, “If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small” (Proverbs 24:10). Jesus stressed that “he who endures to the end will be saved” (Matthew 10:22). The words of the Apostle Paul encourage us to “not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart” (Galatians 6:9). Jesus promises, “Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world…. Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown” (Revelation 3:10–11). When trials come our way, let’s remember the biblical exhortation to persevere on the course God has chosen for us.

Have a profitable Sabbath,

News and Prophecy

Germany’s Emerging Ambition: For decades since World War II, Germany has avoided taking leadership roles within Europe. While German politicians clearly have drive, determination, and foresight and hold important positions in EU leadership, they have generally shied away from taking on strong roles related to the military.

However, at a recent meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Sweden, Germany’s foreign minister, Johann Wadephul, “has made it clear Berlin is ready to take on a greater leadership role in the alliance” (Deutsche Welle, May 21, 2026). Prior to departing Berlin for Sweden, Herr Wadephul stated, “Our goal is a new burden-sharing arrangement that reflects Germany’s and Europe’s economic and military potential…. Germany is accepting its leadership responsibility.” He also noted that Germany intends, as soon as possible, to reach NATO’s spending target of 5 percent of GDP for military and defense. Germany is one of just a few NATO member-nations that are contributing to the organization at a very high level. This action brings with it more respect and will likely make it easier for Germany to take a far more prominent role in NATO. It appears that Germany has seen the need to step up in NATO leadership, and it is now intent on doing so. Why is this significant?

For years, the United States has played the primary leadership role in NATO and in the military concerns of Europe. However, Bible prophecy reveals that not only the U.S. but other Israelite-descended nations of western Europe and the British Isles will decline at the end of the age. In their place, a European descendent of Assyria will arise to lead a group of nations in Europe, politically, militarily, and economically. This leader and future head of Europe will be known as the “beast,” described in several chapters in the book of Revelation. That “beast” is none other than Germany and the one who is prophesied to lead it! The transformation we are now witnessing in Europe and in NATO is setting the stage for the fulfillment of end-time Bible prophecy. To learn more about this prophetically significant transformation, be sure to read or listen to Germany in Prophecy.

Anger and Hate Can Rewire Our Brain! Have you ever wondered why people who are full of hate seem unable to consider another point of view? Sometimes it seems like those who hate have a one-track mind that is only capable of focusing on how much they detest someone or something. As it turns out, this can be explained by science. When we hate or harbor extreme anger towards another person, our brain prioritizes negative judgment and aggressive behavior. Our judgment is, very literally, impaired. In fact, hate deactivates the part of the brain that regulates “impulsive responses and understanding others’ feelings” (The Epoch Times, May 16, 2026). Extreme dislike or hatred prevents us from considering the feelings of others and from controlling impulsive actions motivated by hate—even if they are wrong. As neuroscientists are learning, “Hate self-reinforces. The more you hate, the more your brain is wired to hate—it is like a low-dose poison that quietly erodes empathy.”

Uncontrolled hate can spread to other people. According to Dr. Mitchell Landers at the University of California, the hater becomes “unable to empathize with a person’s pain.” They become numb to the pain of those they hate and even begin feeling good when others hurt.

Sadly, those who chronically hate others bring many negative health consequences on themselves. Hate leads to higher stress and degradation of the immune system. This increases the hater’s own risk of diseases like cancer, stroke, and heart attack. Hate results from unresolved anger. Anger leads to hate, and hate only reinforces itself. However, as we develop more compassion for others, hate dims. How was Jesus Christ, despite how badly He was treated by some, able to avoid hating them? Likely, the great compassion and love He had for so many, young and old, played an important role. To discover how to overcome the self-destructive emotion of hate, read or listen to “Seek the Compassion of Christ.” —Scott Winnail and Francine Prater
