Weekly Update

August 3rd, 2000

Greetings!

By now most ministers have probably received the encouraging letter Mr. Meredith sent to all ministers on August 1st. In addition to that, he also wrote a letter addressed to all ministers and hosts concerning the marking of Mr. Dave Pack.

That particular letter is to be read word by word, at the services (and/or Video groups), without editorializing or making comments.

Presently Mr. Carl McNair is at the Living Church Youth Camp. I spoke with him a few minutes ago. He assured me that everything was "magnifique" and that everybody was happy. Of course, he didn't mention - nor did he comment about - the mosquitoes!

The Mail Processing Department reports a good response so far from the spring Semi-Annual letter, which introduced Dr. Meredith's new booklet, "Who Controls the Weather?" In the US, 32,442 letters were mailed, producing 3,381 responses for a 10.4% response rate. In Canada, 8,937 letters were sent and 1,048 responses were received for a response rate of 11.7%. South Africa reports a 19.8% response rate with 447 requests generated from 2,247 letters. Australia's overall response rate was 32% from 598 letters.

Moreover, New Zealand sent out 380 semi-annual letters. Mr. Kinnear Penman reports that "we have had a real boost to subscribers lately. Many more people than in the past have gone onto request regular subscriptions. Our TW mailing list is now 605 and we also print 600 of the Tomorrow's World digests which are presently going to the South Pacific, East Africa and Caribbean."

In South Africa, "The work is flourishing," writes Mr. Syd Hull, and he adds, "Between 20 and 25 new people will be attending FOT for the first time this year. Recently, two new families have become a part of the Church, one in Johannesburg and one in Pretoria. The Pretoria Video Group has now grown in recent months and we have no option but to start a new church in Pretoria. These people have up to now traveled 60 kilometers in order to attend services in Johannesburg twice a month. As fuel cost have risen phenomenally this year, it will be a great cost saving to have a church in Pretoria."

Before closing this report, here is some exciting news from Mr. Wayne Pyle:

"The Tomorrow's World telecast attained two milestones this past week. Since the program began airing a year and a half ago in January 1999, we have now received 65,000 responses for the literature and audiotapes that have been offered each week. Moreover, we passed the 100-mark in the number of TV stations that are airing the telecast. San Francisco and Wausau, Wisconsin are our newest additions, with a station in the country of Guyana imminent. A new station in Bronx, New York recently opened to us, thanks to the diligence and persistence of our elder, Roger Allgeyer. We now air Tomorrow's World on 90 TV stations in the United States and 11 internationally.

"Thanks to the hard work of Bonnie Miller, we now have a comprehensive listing of 2,281 cable facilities in the United States that offer public access, religious access or leased access television. Public and religious access stations usually air our TV program for free. Leased access stations, on the other hand, are not free and commonly charge from $25 to $50 for 30 minutes of air time."

If you would like to have a listing of the public access stations in your area, if there happen to be any, please contact Wayne Pyle. You may email him at [email protected], or call him at 858-674-6330.

Well, friends, wherever Y'ALL live, I hope it's a little cooler than here in San Diego. But remember, we don't have mosquitoes.
