Greetings everyone:
Whoever said, "Oh it never, never rains in Southern California" erred grievously! Thankfully, welcome rains have come to Southern California! Unfortunately, the coastal areas have to contend with the usual erosion from tidal actions and mudslides. I wonder when we will ever learn not to build in areas subject to such "natural disasters?" Volcanoes, floods, mudslides and earthquakes are going to happen in areas where the conditions prevail, but we choose to live and build edifices without due regard to the elements. "When will they ever learn," goes the popular refrain of the song in the sixties. The answer appears to be "never."
EXECUTIVE OFFICE:
This is Bonnie Miller's last week working as Mr. Meredith's secretary. Today is Bonnie's last day as his secretary, so we are having a going away office party this afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Meredith took her to a "last lunch" at noon today.
Mr. Meredith's new secretary will arrive in a few days. In the meantime, Mr. Meredith will have to struggle along, using help from other departments. I'm sure he will really appreciate his new secretary, Monica Cormier, when she arrives.
Year 2000 is now behind us. This week Mr. Meredith wrote a member letter that you should receive in a few days in which he highlights the accomplishments of the work for last year. We are pleased with the growth of the work, but always wish to do better.
MEDIA:
Mr. William Bowmer submitted the following announcement concerning the Web site:
Those of you who have been frustrated by slow downloads of the Tomorrow's World magazine from the Church Web site http://www.lcg.org will be happy to learn that beginning with the November-December 2000 issue, the magazine HTML files have been reworked. Even on an older PC with a 56k modem, pages should download in less than 10 seconds. Some graphics are included, but they're low-resolution images that load nice and FAST! To see the new format for yourself, go to http://www.lcg.org/mags.htm and select the "HTML" option for either the November 2000 or January 2001 issue. Older issues will be changed to the new format over the next few weeks,
along with other publications on the site.
CHURCH ADMINISTRATION:
Mr. James Davy Crockett will begin working full-time February 1, 2001. For many years, Mr. Crockett has served as an unpaid Elder in the Little Rock, Arkansas Church and area. He and Dr. Jeff Fall were pillars in the area from the beginning of Global. Dr. Fall was hired full-time in July 1997, and Mr. Crockett has continued as the Church Elder in that area since. He has worked very hard for years while running his business. We are happy to have full-time service from Davy and his wife Barbara!
We are now making tentative plans for visits by Mr. Meredith and Mr. Ames to Church areas for this year. I will inform you of upcoming trips as soon as they are firmed up. They are excitedly looking forward to visits in the field this year.
Take care, everybody, and keep in good health.
My thought for the week: "True happiness may be sought, thought or caught — but never bought!" (From: Happiness Is Found Along The Way" compiled by Vernon McClellan)
Have a great Sabbath!
