Weekly Update

September 6th, 2001

Greetings everyone:

The Labor Day weekend shortened our laboring days, but God's Work goes on just the same in full steam. Meanwhile, the CAD Director continues his Southeast visiting tour. Presently, he is in Malaysia and he will be there until Monday when he leaves for Thailand. I haven't had any direct report from him but from every "indirect" indication all is going well.

THE FEAST AT LAKE OF THE OZARKS

The following message was sent to us for the last week's Update by Messrs Gerald Weston and James Wells. Unfortunately, it arrived too late. Hopefully, the singles won't miss the boat…

"Attention all singles attending Lake of the Ozarks!

There will be a dinner cruise aboard the "Tom Sawyer" paddle steamer on Wednesday evening, October 3. The cost will be $23 plus gratuity. If you would like to attend you must send $23 to Local Church Activity Fund, Box 6468 Lees Summit, MO 64064. Checks should be made out no later than September 24th. Gratuity will be satisfied on an individual basis at the end of dinner. Don't miss this opportunity to meet other singles and enjoy a relaxing dinner on beautiful Lake Ozarks."

GROWTH IN NORTHEAST US

Here is an encouraging report from Mr. Paul Shumway, "Our family has now been in the Northeast for one year. The first monthly report I sent in was for July 2000. The average attendance figures for July 2001 were up 27% from the previous July! We've been receiving a number of responses each week from individuals who've seen the telecast or encountered our web page. We even got a call from a college student in Brooklyn who "stumbled" across our website searching for information for his research paper on Christianity. We had a pleasant chat and I sent him some booklets and articles to help him with his paper. What a "coincidence" that of all the churches out there, his first call was to the remnant of the Jerusalem Church of God! As I told him, he has encountered a perspective on true Christianity that he won't find anywhere else!"

MEDIA

With activity from Cuba in the last week, at least 130 countries have visited the official Living Church of God Web sites, www.lcg.org and www.tomorrowsworld.org .

The September-October 2001 Living Church News has been mailed. For those who want to download the PDF file, it is also available in the Member area of the Church Web site, at www.lcg.org/members/lcn.htm (remember to connect with username "member" and password "galatians220")

GREETINGS FROM IRELAND

"I will be in the Netherlands this weekend for services with brethren and for several visits. I hope to stop in Aachen, Germany and Trier before returning to Ireland the middle of next week.

Plans for the Feast are progressing well. Atonement services in the Dublin area will be held at the Regency Airport Hotel located on Drumcondra Road approximately half way between the airport and the city center. The hotel (local phone 01-837-1531) can be reached by city busses that leave from in front of the main Post Office on Connelly Street. Services will begin at 2 pm. For further assistance contact Douglas Winnail (phone from the US 011-353-41-987-3386; or from Dublin, 041-987-3386). Regards, Doug Winnail".

CONCLUSION

This Update must necessarily be short since the week itself was shortened by Labor Day. Simple logic-isn't it? But "for the sake of argument" (I like this expression!) would you be able to give the correct answer if someone asked you when the Americans first began keeping Labor Day and the Memorial Day-and for what reasons?

Something to think about-for the sake of argument, of course!

Y'all have a wonderful Sabbath!
