Weekly Update

March 14th, 2026

Greetings from Charlotte,

Unleavened bread is part of the Passover service, but the Bible does not give us a specific recipe to use, stipulating only that it must be unleavened (Exodus 12:8; Matthew 26:26). Historically, the Church has used store-bought plain Matzos or homemade unleavened bread from a simple recipe from Mrs. Isabell Hoeh (wife of Dr. Herman Hoeh) in 1960. This recipe was likely handed down from an even earlier time. Since the breakup of the Worldwide Church of God, we have become a bit loose in what kind of homemade bread is used for the Passover, with some innovations to the historic recipe. Therefore, we have published ingredients and instructions in the Living Church News for unleavened bread to be used at the Passover service. It is the first recipe on page 17 of this year’s March-April issue, and it is labeled “Bread for Passover Service.” You may also purchase plain Matzos. I will address handling allergies for Passover in next week’s update.

Comments

Christ’s Mind or Our Opinions? How many times have you said or heard, “Here is how I see it,” or “Here is what I think,” or “Here is how I think it should be done?” All too often these comments are directed at people in leadership positions—even in the Church. Moses was criticized by men who held different opinions (Numbers 16:1–33). Peter differed with Jesus over a matter and even rebuked Christ (Matthew 16:21–23). In both cases, the people expressing critical opinions did not recognize the real source of their negative and divisive thoughts and actions. Before we start sharing our “different” opinions, we need to remember God’s warning, “My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways” (Isaiah 55:8). We also need to remember Solomon’s warning, “A fool vents all his feelings, but a wise man holds them back” (Proverbs 29:11). As true Christians, we need to develop a godly perspective that reflects the mind of Jesus Christ (Philippians 2:5).

Have a profitable Sabbath,

News and Prophecy

Iran and the World Order: On February 28, Israel and the United States began a major bombardment of Iran. Initial strikes killed Iran’s supreme leader and many top Iranian government officials and generals. In response, “Iran and its proxies have sought to counter the intensive joint US and Israeli offensive with more than 1,000 strikes against targets across almost a dozen countries spread over 1,200 miles” (The Guardian, March 3, 2026). The countries attacked are hosts of U.S. military bases and include members of the Gulf Cooperation Council such as Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates (Reuters, March 2, 2026).

Where will this all lead? As one source noted, “Even if the fighting stops soon, the era of hedging with Iran is over. And a more guarded, security-driven Gulf lies ahead” (Reuters, March 4, 2026). While leaders in Iran have claimed that these events constitute an “open declaration of war against Muslims”(AlJazeera, March 1, 2026) in the hopes of rallying their Muslim neighbors behind them, their choice to attack their neighbors may instead have the effect of uniting said neighbors against them. In addition, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom have warned that in defending their allies in the region, they may use force to destroy the source of missiles and drones being launched within Iran (Bundesregierung.de, March 1, 2026).

While we cannot know precise details, Bible prophecy declares that a confederation of Middle Eastern nations called “the king of the South” will eventually gather in opposition to a northern, European force (Daniel 11:5–40). You can learn more about the prophesied future of the Middle East by watching “The Three End-Time Superpowers.”

High-Tech Chemicals Found in Dolphin Brains: Each year, over 62 million tons of waste generated by discarded or broken electronic devices are generated globally (The English Chronicle, February 26, 2026). That amounts to “enough waste to fill 1.55 million 40-tonne trucks, which lined up bumper-to-bumper would encircle the equator” (Oceanographic Magazine, February 25, 2026). A recent study reveals how by-products of technology can impact marine biology, even on the subcellular and genetic level.

Scientists have observed that chemicals used in high-tech computer, television, and cell phone screens—known as liquid crystal monomers (LCMs)—have been found in ocean fish. In a study focused on the predators of these fish, Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins and finless porpoises, researchers found LCMs in the blubber, muscle, liver, kidney, and brain tissues of these animals. Finding these chemicals in dolphin brains demonstrated the ability of the chemicals to cross the blood-brain barrier. Of particular concern is that the LCM particles “were associated with gene alterations in dolphin cells, affecting DNA repair and cell division” (The English Chronicle). Scientists believe that LCMs are transmitted to dolphins through their prey and could possibly find their way into humans through contaminated seafood or drinking water.

When money is to be made, it seems little else matters—not even the contamination of creation itself. As Romans 8:19–23 notes, that creation cries out for God to save it! Thankfully, Jesus Christ will return and heal not only people, but the entirety of creation as well.
